• Robert Wayne Duffel (wsjm.com) — Niles is mourning Robert “Sonny” Wayne Duffel, 82, a longtime resident who raised his family locally after moving from Arkansas in 1968. Remembered for his strong work ethic, love of humor, and meticulous lawn care, he worked at several area employers and leaves behind five children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a legacy of perseverance and devotion to family.
   

• Michigan Democrats roll out vaccine bill package as GOP raises concerns (blackchronicle.com) — State Rep. Brad Paquette of Niles is leading Republican opposition to a new package of vaccine-related bills introduced by Michigan Democrats, who say they aim to give parents clearer, evidence-based information. The 11-bill package would change school and child care immunization reporting, exemption procedures, and insurance coverage, while Democrats insist they are not mandating vaccines and Paquette warns of added burdens for families who decline shots.
