Delve Deeper into Northville High's Michigan Merit Exam Scores

Northville students score far above state averages.

Northville High School students continue to score above the state average on the Michigan Merit Exam (MME).

The test, taken each spring by high school juniors, showed that the class of 2014 scored slightly lower across the board than recently graduated peers in reading, math, science, writing and social studies, according to a report released by the Michigan Department of Education.

Despite the slight decline in scores for the district from last year, the percentage of Northville students scoring at the proficient and advanced levels remains strong, the district said in a press release.

The district plans to focus on bringing up proficiency in social studies, in which scored have decreased from four years ago, the release said.

"The MME is one tool used by our educators to help map out each student’s progress," said Northville High School Principal Rob Watson. "The social studies scores, along with math and science, have resulted in the need to place more emphasis on these subject areas as we look to next year’s school improvement plan with the goal of better preparing students.”
