Electric Pole Catches Fire Outside of Amerman Elementary

Power has been shut off in the Northville school until repairs can be made.

The top of an electric pole caught fire outside of Amerman Elementary School shortly after the school's lunchtime Tuesday, according to an email from the school's listserv.

The email states that Northville police and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene and a DTE repair crew was called.

District Operations personnel shut down the power at Amerman to alleviate the electric load on the pole until DTE can make necessary repairs, the email states.

"Since the fire was contained outside, students were in brought inside and into the hallways until fire officials recommended that students return to their respective classrooms. At approximately 12:30 p.m., students were returned to their classrooms to finish the school day," the email states.

Power remains out at the school until DTE makes the required repairs.
