In Brief: Eagle Scouts Honored, Cooke School Program Recognized
Highlights from the Northville school board's meeting Tuesday night at Old Village School.

Eagle scouts honored
At its meeting Tuesday night, the Northville Board of Education recognized three students for their achievement of becoming Eagle Scouts.
- Forrest Ickes (son of William and Juliet Ickes) worked on improving Lakeshore Park as part of his Eagle project.
- Scott Baetz Matthews (son of Bill and Katy Baetz Matthews) collected items, such as toiletries and books, to ship to troops in Afghanistan for his Eagle project.
- Andrew Slatin (son of Paul and Marcia Slatin) worked on upgrading the visitors bullpen at 's varsity baseball field.
Ickes and Baetz Matthews were at the meeting and received awards for their achievements. Slatin was not present, but members of the audience said he was out volunteering at the time.
Cooke School program recognized by state
Teacher Sue Plummer's program at received an award on March 1 by the Michigan Council for Exceptional Children. The program received the organization's Entrepreneurial Classroom Award.

Solar awnings to be installed at Amerman Elementary
has raised $11,700 to install solar awnings at the school. At the school board's Tuesday meeting, the board approved a proposal to contract with Nova Consultants. The money was raised by the school's Dad's Club.
Initially, according to district documents, the school was supposed to receive a matching grant from the state's Energy Works program. It has since been cut and the matching funds are no longer available.

A scaled back project was designed and the board of education has authorized a contract with Nova not to exceed $12,000.
DTE will install a new meter that will allow the school's electric bill to be credited for its energy output to its power grid, according to the plan. The school will be billed for the difference.
