Labor Day 2013: What's Open, What's Closed

Enjoy your Monday holiday!

Labor Day, which takes place this year on Monday, Sept. 2, celebrates the many social and economic achievements of American workers: the 40-hour workweek, the 8-hour workday, the right to be safe in the workplace, a minimum wage, pensions, health insurance and many other benefits.

Here is a list of what’s open and what’s closed in observance of the holiday:

Government offices

Mail

Post Offices will be closed Monday.

Trash

Trash will not be picked up on Monday, and trash collection will be one day late for the remainder of the week.

Grocery stores

Most grocery stores and supermarkets are open with regular hours Monday.

Banks

Most banks and credit unions will be closed. 

Library

The Northville District Library will be closed Monday.

Schools

All Northville schools will be closed Monday.

Shopping

Convenience stores and most retail stores will be open. Look for those deep Labor Day discounts!
