Livonia Community Theatre Hosts Weekend of Entertainment
Life and Art Intersect with Clue, the Musical, and Benefit Concert Spotlighting Broadway Shows Celebrating Human Rights

A classic board game come to life and a benefit concert spotlighting music from Broadway that encourages human rights are both on tap the weekend of March 29-31, 2019 at Livonia Community Theatre.
If you grew up playing the board game Clue, you now have an opportunity to play it in real life with the cast of Livonia Community Theatre in their production of Clue, the Musical, which lets the audience in on unmasking the killer. The show runs March 29, March 30, and April 6, 2019 at 7:30 p.m., also April 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students 18 and younger.
“The familiar characters are all there,” says Director Pat Hutchison, “Miss Scarlett, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Professor Plum, Mrs. Green and Miss Peacock. But the most interesting part is that every performance is different because the audience is involved in deducing who killed Mr. Boddy. It’s a different killer in every show which makes it challenging for the cast.” The addition of music to the proceedings adds yet another dimension to the entertainment. “Despite the subject matter of murder, this is not a dark comedy,” Hutchison says. “The writing is clever and the songs are jazzy and fun.”

The 8-member cast includes Rebecca Borsodi (Redford), Daryl Collins (Novi), Jenny Collins (Novi), Rachel Kain (Livonia), Maria Jeter (Wayne), Jake McLaughlin (Livonia), Tony Parsons (Redford), and Matt Raybaud (Livonia).
On Sunday, March 31, 2019, the group is sponsoring a benefit concert featuring songs and scenes from Broadway shows that illustrate human rights. “Musical theater has much to teach us about the ways people have been marginalized by society because of their race, religion, and sexual orientation,” says Hutchison, who started Livonia Community Theatre in 2011 when she retired from her position teaching vocal music at Churchill High School. “And it does so in a way that’s entertaining as well as educational.”

The idea for the benefit concert came as Hutchison prepares to retire once again, this time from her position as Artistic Director and President of Livonia Community Theatre. “Once a teacher, always a teacher, I guess,” Hutchison notes. “I wanted to offer the community another way of looking at a theater experience, and give a different meaning to some of their favorite songs and characters.” A variety of guest actors and singers will showcase songs and scenes from shows such as West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Diary of Anne Frank, Dear Evan Hansen, and more. Ann Fisher, Director of Choral Music and CAPA Vocal at Churchill High School, will be the guest conductor.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit Redford Interfaith and also youth scholarships for summer theater camps at LCT. Tickets are $15 and include an afterglow with desserts from local bakeries.
Tickets for both events may be purchased at the door, or online at the groups website livoniacommunitytheatre.org. Both events will be held at the group’s performance home in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 27475 Five Mile Road, Livonia, 48154.
