Longtime Northville Resident Pens Thriller
"An intense and gripping read that keeps you hooked from start to finish."

Longtime Northville resident Jessica Hatchigan, who writes as J. R. Hatchigan, has penned a thriller, The Man Who Was Like a Dog with a Bone.
“The Man Who Was Like a Dog with a Bone is an intense and gripping read that keeps you hooked from start to finish,” reviewer Charles Reeves writes of the novel, “J.R. Hatchigan masterfully combines a journalist’s relentless pursuit of truth with a deeply personal and tragic backstory, creating a narrative packed with suspense, emotion, and intrigue. This is more than just a mystery; it’s a story about resilience, guilt, and the lengths one man will go for answers. Fans of fast-paced thrillers with emotional depth will find this book an absolute standout.”
The book tells the story of Joe Novak, a journalist on a quest to uncover the truth behind a seemingly senseless mass shooting that destroyed his family. “Joe has roots in Michigan,” Hatchigan says, “but the action of the novel takes place in California.” She visited California for the first time on a mid-winter business trip, she says, when she worked as manager of editorial services for a Fortune 500 company “I fell in love with the place at first sight but I’m pretty sure that happens to any Michigander who visits the West Coast in January.”

Hatchigan and her husband Cass lived in Northville for more than twenty years and she was an active member of the Northville Garden Club and of the Northville Art House. They downsized and moved to Chelsea, Michigan, a few years ago, “But Northville will always have a special place in my heart,” she says. “I made many wonderful friends there and have happy memories of the Victorian Festival and Fourth of July parades, meeting friends at Rebecca’s, cider and donuts at Parmenter’s in the fall, and ice cream treats at Guernsey’s in the summer, and the fun of walking around the vibrant downtown all year round.”
The Man Who Was Like a Dog with a Bone (Nostina) is available from Amazon in ebook and paperback formats.
