Northville Police Car Features Hi-Tech Safety Surveillance
The new system will alert an officer to anyone approaching from the rear.

Ford Motor Company created a new system for police cars that gives officers an added measure of safety.
City of Northville police has one of these new hi-tech Ford Police Interceptors. Claudia Kruger, an officer with the City of Northville for seven years, demonstrates the new system in the YouTube video above.
A squad car is a police officer's mobile office, a place where an officer easily spends eight hours a day, she said.
"I'd like to be able to see who is coming up behind me," she said in the video.
Randy Freiburger, of Novi, the Ford engineer also in the video above, had the idea to add these features to the police car. The new system will alert an officer to anyone approaching from the rear. It also has a camera for continuous monitoring of the area behind the vehicle. When someone does approach, an alarm sounds, the windows roll up and the doors lock, he said.
