Northville Resident Enters the Race for Township Board of Trustees

Fred Shadko will seek a seat on the Township Board of Trustees.

Northville resident Fred Shadko has announced he will run for election for the township Board of Trustees.

(Shadko) has become the first to file for election to a Trustee seat in the August 7, 2012, primary election. Shadko has held leadership positions in many community activities, including co-leading the successful 2008 Stop Annexation drive, and organizing the Northville Township Dog Park. Shadko has a Bachelors Degree in Engineering and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.Shadko has held leadership positions in many community activities, including co-leading the successful 2008 Stop Annexation drive and the subsequent campaign to purchase the majority of the state hospital property. He is co-founder of Citizens for Northville. He is presently a member of the Township’s Green Ribbon Seven Mile Road committee, which worked with community members and park planners to create a long term Seven Mile Road park plan.

He serves as Secretary of the Northville Township Historic District Commission and is the creative director for the Commission’s popular annual presentations. The HDC has created the Township’s first historic district at Thayer’s Corners and is working to inventory the Township’s historic assets as part of the certified government process. Shadko is also an active member of the Northville Historical Society, creating multi-media presentations and videos and supporting numerous Mill Race Village activities including the annual Cemetery Walk.

Fred Shadko is a charter member of the Northville Dog Parks. He joined the downtown park when it first opened. Seeking to build on that park’s instant success, he campaigned for a dog park in the Township. That park was built at Community Park and is presently used by 350 households, with 135 households using both parks. The Northville Dog Parks are financially self-sufficient.

Shadko moved to the Township in 1996 with his wife Mariellen, their son Mike, and their loyal old Dalmatian “Sinatra”. He resides in the original Northville Hills subdivision just east of Maybury State Park. He is one of the area residents who worked to obtain the Natural Beauty Road designation for Main Street between Clement and Beck in 2011.
