Northville Rowing Going Strong at Midwest
Northville Rowing placed third overall at Midwest Championships at Kent Lake
Northville Rowing competed at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Association Championship Regatta May 13-14 at Kensington Metropark in Milford, Michigan. This annual regional event, which this year hosted 56 high school teams from nine states, qualifies the top rowers to compete at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) National Championship Regatta in Oak Ridge, Tennessee or the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida. After a great race day on Saturday, 20 of Northville’s boats qualified for Sunday’s finals.
On finals day, the Mustangs started strong with 1st place for Kendall Moeller and Brigita Sumskas (seniors) in the Women’s Varsity Pair. Gold for Joseph Siddall (junior), Charles Huddy (senior), Ryan Bis (senior) and Ryan Kretschmer (sophomore) in the Mens Varsity 4. Defending champions Benjamin Kemnitz (senior) and Daniel DeAlmeida (junior) earned gold in the Mens Varsity Pair. Allison Phillips (junior) earned silver in the Women’s Varsity Single. Second place for Avery DiFrancesco (junior) and Max Montgomery (junior) in the Men’s Junior double. Another silver for Vidhya Patel (sophomore), Megan Lauster (freshman), Divya Weaver (freshman), Morgan Sokolowski (freshman) and Emma Lou (freshman) in the Women’s Novice coxed quad. And silver for Megan Gibbons and Maud Grobben (sophomores) in the Women’s Junior double. Bronze was for Elizabeth Hartigan and Magdalena Zezulkova (seniors) in the Varsity double. Another third place for Calista Ye (sophomore), Luke Montgomery, Josh Park, Jacob Hudyma and Danny Perez-Garcia (freshman) in the Men’s Novice coxed quad.
Head Coach Nick Bickes stated: “We’re very pleased with the team’s overall third place. This is the result of the hard work of our athletes, commitment of the coaches and family members who volunteer throughout the season. But we’re not done yet; we would like to finish strong at State Championship on May 20th.”

Northville Rowing is excited to announce that our gold medalists at Midwest will compete at the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida on June 8-11. Other Northville medalists will compete at SRAA Nationals during Memorial Weekend in Oak Ridge, TN.
