Northville Rowing Secures First Place at State Championship 2023

Celebrating Success through Hard Work and Teamwork

Northville Rowing competed in the Scholastic Rowing Association of Michigan 2023 Championship Regatta held on May 20 at Kensington Metropark in Milford, Michigan. They placed 1st in combined points, 1st in Men’s and 2nd in Women’s with a total of 12 event medals.

Northville Rowing’s success at the States Championship, claiming the first-place position, marks a remarkable milestone in their athletic journey. Bringing home seven gold medals: Men’s Varsity 4+ (Coxswain Radhika Ajmera ’23, Joe Siddall ’24, Charles Huddy ’23, Ryan Bis ’23, and Ryan Kretschmer ’25), Men’s JV 4+ (Coxswain Colin El-Behairy ’24, Austin DiFrancesco ’24, Owen Johnston ’25, Alex Binkert ’24, and Ryan Baughman ’24), Men’s Varsity 8+ (Coxswain Radhika Ajmera ’23, Joe Siddall ’24, Charles Huddy ’23, Ryan Bis ’23, and Ryan Kretschmer ’25, Austin DiFrancesco ’24, Danny DeAlmedia ’24, Ben Kemnitz ’23, and Max Montgomery ‘24), Men’s JV 8+ (Coxswain Colin El-Behairy '24, Leyton DeMeo ‘23, Marc Boissinot ‘25, Ryan Baughman ‘24, David DiNick ‘25, Owen Johnston ‘25, Alexander Binkert '24, Avery DiFrancesco ‘24, Aryan Joshi ’23), Men’s 3V 8+ (Coxswain Param Patel ‘24, Justin Gorski '25, Richard Carlos ‘25, Vasili Dimopoulos ‘25, Oliver Paul Fischer ‘25, Jackson Zaremski '24, Dhiren Dommeti '24, Cormac Dooley ‘25, Saajveer Mann ‘24), Men’s JV 1x (Max Montgomery ’24) and Women’s Varsity 4x (Allison Phillips ’24, Megan Gibbons ’25, Megan Lauster ’26, Maud Grobben ’25). The team also took four silver medals in the Women’s Varsity 8+ (Nila Muthusamy ‘24, Suzanne Davila ‘23, Magdalena Zezulkova ‘23, Brigita Sumskas ‘23, Megan Lauster '26, Megan Gibbons ‘25, Elizabeth Hartigan ‘23, Kendall Moeller ‘23, Allison Phillips 24’), Men’s Freshman 4+ (Calista Ye ‘25, Luke Montgomery ‘26, Yusef Hariri ‘26, Colin Oleksinski ‘26, Sejung Park ’26), Men’s 2- (Danny DeAlmedia ’24 and Ben Kemnitz ’23) and Women’s 2- (Brigita Sumskas ’23 and Kendall Moeller ’23) and one bronze medal in the Women’s Varsity 2x (Elizabeth Hartigan ’23 and Magda Zezulkova ’23).
These results came from months of dedication, training and teamwork. "I’m very proud of all our athletes with this win. It also has a positive impact on the sport of rowing as a whole. Their achievement shines a spotlight on the sport, creating attention and interest from both the local community and the wider rowing community,” said Head Coach Nick Bickes.

The team qualified three boats, Women’s Junior 4x, Women’s Freshman 4x, and Men’s Varsity 4+, for the Scholastic Rowing Association America Regatta on May 26-27 and three boats, Men’s Varsity 2-, Women’s Varsity 2- and the Men’s Varsity 4-, for the USRowing Youth Nationals Championships in Sarasota, Florida June 6-11.

A heartfelt congratulations goes out to the graduating seniors: Radhika Ajmera, Ryan Bis, Suzy Davila, Leyton DeMeo, Elizabeth Hartigan, Charles Huddy, Aryan Joshi, Benjamin Kemnitz, Natasha Kobelsky, Summer Mansi, Riley Miller, Kendall Moeller, Brigita Sumskas, Eric Wan and Magdalena Zezulkova. Their discipline, resilience and time management skills they have honed on the water, will undoubtedly serve them well in whatever endeavors they pursue.

This summer, Northville Rowing will host a variety of rowing camps for high school and middle school students who would like to try the sport or improve their performance for those who already have experience rowing.
