UPDATED: Knife Confiscated From Student at Ridge Wood Elementary
A fifth grader brought in the knife. No one was injured in the incident.

Northville Township police and Northville Public Schools officials are investigating an incident in which a student brought a knife into on Wednesday.
No one was injured and the knife was confiscated. The student has been suspended pending an investigation. And, according to a school email alert, the student will ultimately face discipline ranging from long term suspension to expulsion.
The fifth grade student reportedly kept the knife, possibly a kitchen knife, in his backpack, according to Robert Behnke, the district's Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services.

"The student showed it to another student and then that student reported it and that info got back to the school," Behnke said.
It is unclear why the student brought the knife into school.

Northville Township Public Safety Director John Werth said the incident is still under investigation.
In an email alert, Ridge Wood principal Alicia Parsons wrote:
"Please view this incident as an opportunity to speak with your child(ren) about the seriousness of bringing any kind of weapon to school and the severity of disciplinary actions which could result. In addition, please join us in reinforcing the importance of reporting any such information to school staff immediately. This assists us in maintaining a safe environment while also providing an opportunity for adult intervention and support. As always, we continue to work with all of our children on appropriate ways to address problems of any kind."
According to the email alert, the student will face some sort of discipline: "Following the outcome of the investigation and threat assessment, the student in question will be disciplined in accordance with the Northville Public Schools’ Student Code of Conduct."
