21 Bottles of Liquor Stolen From Walmart; Car Stolen From Twelve Oaks Mall

A man was arrested on charges of retail fraud after he was seen stealing 21 bottles of liquor worth more than $500 from Walmart on Sept. 2 at 2 p.m., according to a police report.

The loss prevention officer at the store told police the man took a rolling cooler and placed the liquor inside. The man then left the store with the cooler without paying and was stopped by the officer, the report said. When questioned by the Novi police, the man said he stole the liquor so that he could “have a cool bar” and be the “cool guy” who always had liquor for his friends, the report said. The man apologized and said he had a problem with shoplifting, the report said.

Car Stolen from Twelve Oaks Mall

A car was reported stolen from the parking lot at Twelve Oaks Mall on Aug. 27, according to a police report.

A woman parked her car in the Macy’s upper parking lot at 12:15 p.m. and returned at 4:30 p.m. to find it missing, the report said. The woman still had the car keys, and security was unable to find the car in the lot. The mall is checking to see if they caught the act on surveillance video, the report said.

Three iPhones Stolen From Mall

Three iPhones were reported stolen at Twelve Oaks Mall between Aug. 27 and Sept. 1, according to police reports.

A father told police his son had his phone stolen while waiting outside of a store just before noon on Aug. 27, a report said. The father said a man came up to his son, said he was looking for his friend, and asked if he could use his phone to call him. The boy gave him the phone and the man appeared to make a call, the report said. A second man then ran by and the first man threw the phone to him. Both of them then ran away, the report said.  

A different man said he was sitting outside of the mall on Sept. 1 around 8:30 p.m. when a man walked up to him and took his cell phone out of his hand, a report said. The man then ran to a car that was parked in the lot and drove away, the report said.

A woman also reported her cell phone was stolen on Sept. 1. The woman was working at kiosk in the mall and had her phone on the counter at 8 p.m., the report said. When she went to close the kiosk for the night at 8:30 p.m., she noticed the phone was missing, the report said.

Four Cars Broken Into

Two cars were broken into while parked on Norwich Drive on Sept. 3 and another two were broken into on Cabaret Drive in August, according to police reports.

One woman found the center console and glove box of her car were open Tuesday morning with $42 in rolled coins missing, a report said. Her car was parked on the street and left unlocked. Her neighbor said her GPS was stolen from her unlocked car on the same night, the report said. A second neighbor said he had taken a photo of the suspect from his surveillance camera, the report said. The man said the suspect came to his house at 1:30 a.m. and tried to open his car, but failed, the report said. The photo is being investigated, the report said.  

Also, two cars were broken into and had their radios stolen while parked on Cabaret Drive, according to police reports.

Sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 and 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 31, the radio/GPS was stolen from the dashboard of a minivan, a report said. The middle window of the minivan had been smashed, and no evidence was found, the report said.

Sometime on Aug. 31, the radio/GPS was stolen from the dashboard of another minivan parked on Cabaret, a report said. The middle window of this car was also smashed, the report said. The police were able to collect some fingerprints from the car, which are being checked by the Detective Bureau.
