Estranged Oakland Co. Husband Shot, Killed After Breaking Into Home Where Wife Was Visiting: Sheriff

Investigators believe the man broke into the home and opened fire before the homeowner fatally shot him.

FOWLERVILLE, MI — An Oakland County man was shot and killed Christmas night after breaking into a Fowlerville home where his estranged wife was visiting, according to sheriff's officials.

The shooting happened Thursday night at a home in the 5500 block of Nicholson Road in the Fowlerville area where officers found the armed Lake Orion man shot to death, officials said.

Officials said the homeowner, who called 911, had also been shot. He was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Investigators believe the Lake Orion man entered the home and fired shots at the homeowner, striking him twice. The homeowner fired back and fatally struck the man, officials said.

Investigators identified the suspect as the estranged husband of a woman who was visiting the homeowner at the time. They said he drove roughly an hour from Lake Orion to the home.
