Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Novi

The national holiday is celebrated through song, dance, games, crafts and more.

Community members and students gathered Friday at Novi High School for "Unity in the Community," the eighth annual celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Events at the Novi Library

When: 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20
Where: Novi Public Library

The Novi Library is planning some outstanding activities for the community on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There will be story time, from 1 to 1:30 p.m., geared for elementary school students. That will be followed by an hour of crafts and activities, ending at 2:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the Novi Library will be hosting author Jean Alicia Elster.  She will speak about her 2014 Michigan Notable book, "The Colored Car," which is a Young Adult historical fiction that takes place in Detroit in the 1930s. It is an emotional and compelling look on how the joys of daily life and the legacy of slavery affected children of the 1930s. Elster will also answer questions at the end the evening and will sign copies of her book.
