Building is Booming in Novi

City of Novi Community Development and Treasury Departments will extend hours to meet demand for permits, design consultations, and payments.

With 208 commercial permits and 146 new housing permits issued, totaling $41 million in valuation, 2012 is proving to be a busy year for development in Novi. Construction in Novi has been steadily increasing with key projects underway including the revitalization of the , with in mid-August, and the adjacent to the .

Providing quality customer service is a top priority for the City of Novi. To ensure builders and homeowners receive prompt customer service during the busy summer construction season, the Community Development and Treasury Departments will extend hours until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings July 10 through Labor Day. This is in addition to the 40 service hours offered per week, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We are excited to provide this enhanced customer service to our businesses and residents,” said Charles Boulard, Community Development Director, in the press release. “In a time when we see many communities closing doors early and decreasing service hours to the public, we are able to offer additional opportunities for citizens.”

During the extended hours, staff will receive and issue permits, process payments, and provide consultations for typical homeowner projects such as deck plans, setbacks, pool construction, etc. Consultation appointments should be made in advance by contacting the Community Development Department at (248) 347-0415. Additionally, the Treasury Department will accept tax and utility payments.
