Creative Camps Offered in Novi This Summer

Looking for creative ways to keep your youngster busy this summer? The City of Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department has fun activities planned for the aspiring actor or artist. Registration is going on now for all summer camps via cityofnovi.org or at the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services office located inside the .

Here are some of the creative camps being offered this summer:

Theatre Showcase

Dates and time: July 9-19, Monday-Thursday, Noon-4 p.m.
Ages: 8-16 years
Cost: $225

This fast-paced camp will have auditions, rehearsals and perform a fantastic full play. Participants will work as part of an ensemble to explore and develop characters while learning new acting techniques. Camp will culminate in a performance on Thursday, July 19 at 7 p.m. A t-shirt is included. Please bring a snack each day of camp. This camp will be taught by experienced director and costume designer Colleen Meyer.

Music Theatre Experience

Dates and time: July 16-20, Monday-Friday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Ages: 7-16 years
Cost: $110

Participants will learn the art of musical theatre while preparing a musical revue written for you to be performed at the end of camp. This camp is specially designed to give you a taste of musical theatre without the commitment of a large show. This camp will be taught by Elaine Buck.

Project Broadway

Dates and time: July 24-August 16, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Ages: 7-16 years 
Cost: $265

Stars will become triple threats as they perfect vocal, dance and acting techniques. Taught by the experienced directors Elaine Buck and Sue Hoernschemeyer, performers will learn to audition with confidence and how to be a shining star while still being a model member of an ensemble. A Broadway-style revue, specifically tailored to this cast, will be performed on Thursday, August 16 at 7 p.m. A t-shirt is included. Participants must bring a
sack lunch.

Art Fundamentals Camp

Dates and time: July 9-13, Monday-Friday, Noon-4 p.m.
Ages: 6-8 years
Cost: $145

Through art media exploration, your child will explore their imagination and expand on their creative process in this foundation focused camp. A variety of techniques and materials, (including watercolor, tempera and printmaking), will be used to develop artistic skill and complete fun and engaging artwork (all new projects from last year). This camp will be taught by experienced artist Pam Shapiro.

Painting Fundamentals Camp

Dates and time: August 13-17, Monday-Friday, Noon-4 p.m.
Ages: 9-12 years
Cost: $145

Delve into the essentials of painting! Artists will be guided through the basics of planning and application to take their artwork to the next level. From paper to canvas, explore color mixing and theory while building skills and expanding creatively. This camp will be taught by experienced artist Pam Shapiro.
