Trash pickup days will change for some Novi residents.

(UPDATED) NOVI, MI — The second phase of Novi’s trash program with Waste Management will start July 1. About 1,200 households in various subdivisions in Novi will make the switch, according to city officials.
The program was first rolled out last July. Novi Community Relations Specialist Nathan Mueller said the bulk of residents made the switch at that time, about 12,000 households in all.

Subdivisions making the change to Waste Management on July 1 include Carlton Forest 1-2, Turtle Creek, Willowbrook 1-3, Meadowbrook Glens and Harbor Cove.

New trash and recycling carts will be delivered to residents about a week before the program begins in the subdivisions in phase 2 of the program, Mueller said. Waste Management will pick up bulk items like a mattress or a refrigerator at no additional charge.
Trash should be set to the curb by 7 a.m. on each Novi resident’s trash day. The new carts will be picked up by a mechanical arm on the garbage truck. City officials say carts should be placed at the end of driveways, not on the street. Trash and recycling carts must be placed at least three feet apart, they add.
Residents with questions about the program should contact Waste Management at (866)797-9018.
Correction: An early version of this article stated that the entire city of Novi was starting on the trash program on July 1, 2017.
