Novi Business Promises to Feed the Hungry

National Food Group, based in Novi, will donate 5 percent of its annual net profits.

National Food Group is a Novi business that is pledging to give 5 percent of its net profits to feed the hungry.

“I see so many children and people not getting enough nutrition and because our company knows and loves food, I felt compelled to help," said Sean Zecman, National Food Group CEO, in a news release.

The program is called Step 1 and will feed local families through Forgotten Harvest, which works in metro Detroit to rescue and redistribute surplus, prepared and perishable food.

This is an annual promise and obligation to the community by National Food Group, which has been around for over 20 years. The company provides food products for institutional feeding markets like schools, correctional facilities and higher education. For a fourth year in a row, National Food Group is on Inc. 5000’s list of America’s fastest growing private companies.

The company is open to suggestions on where else to donate, said Kat Dooley, director of marketing.

The group has donated to food pantries in the past and often works together to give back. Dooley said employees will be volunteering at Forgotten Harvest on Sept. 6.
