Novi Civic Center to Get New Roof

Construction begins in July.

The will get a new roof in July, replacing the original roof that was constructed with the building 25 years ago.

The roof will cost approximately $224,650 and will be constructed by CEI Michigan LLC, the low qualified bidder. The Novi City Council approved the bid at its meeting Monday night.

According to the City Council action item, the roof consistently leaks in several areas during rain events, including in the clerk's office, Novi Parks and Rec area, the theater and in IT. Novi's facility staff has been patching the areas, but they only serve as temporary fixes.

If the roof is not replaced, damages and repair expenses will increase, according to the information the council used to make its decision.

The roof was constructed in 1987, when the typical life of a commercial roof was 15-25 years. The new roof includes a 25-year manufacturer guarantee for both labor and materials.

Work on the roof is scheduled to begin in mid-July and will be completed in 12 days, weather permitting.

The work is expected to minimally effect business operations, as there will be minor noise disturbance while the construction is taking place.
