Novi Crime Report: Man Dines and Dashes from Denny's

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A man was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he dined and dashed from at 5 a.m. on June 4, according to a police report.

Police were dispatched to the area of Grand River Avenue and Novi Road after someone called to say the man had failed to pay his bill at Denny's and left in a black Chevrolet SUV in an unknown direction, the report said. The complainant reported that the man was intoxicated.

A police officer found the car near 10 Mile and Novi Roads, the report said. The officer saw the driver make a quick U-turn on 10 Mile and quickly accelerate on Novi Road, going approximately 60 mph in a 40 mph zone, the report said.

When the officer spoke to the man, he said he had just left Denny’s and was lost; he said was trying to get back to the Hilton, the report said. The man said he ordered a breakfast at Denny’s that he never received, but he agreed to return there and pay for meal if needed, the report said.

The officer noted in the report that the man seemed disoriented and his conversation was disorganized. The man refused a Breathalyzer test, but the results of the other sobriety tests led the officer to arrest the man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, the report said. According to the report, Denny's did not wish to press charges.
