Novi High Principal Position to be Posted in March

The high school does not have a principal because of the school board's decision not to hire top candidate Nicole Carter.

Novi High School is starting the school year without a principal, but the district is expecting to have one by next summer.

The school board decided earlier this month not to approve the administration's recommendation to hire Nicole Carter as principal. She was serving as interim principal and will continue that for the upcoming school year

The board members who voted against the approval weren't confident in the hiring process and were looking for someone with more experience as principal. That decision restarted the search for Novi High School's principal.

"They want us to improve the process before we come back with another recommendation," said District Superintendent Steve Matthews.

Those improvements include more objective measures in regards to resumes, questions asked during the interview and how the candidates were rated, he said. He will outline a plan to clarify the hiring process with the board and repost the position in March, according to a news release from the district.

Then, he will recommend a candidate to the board in May and the new principal should be ready to begin by July.

“I believe this is a good interim step that will help us start the school year well,” Matthews said in the release.  “It will help us continue our momentum and move the high school forward.”

The first day of school in the Novi Community School District is Sept. 3.
