Oakland County Man Drowns In Lake Michigan Off South Haven Beach: Officials
A Novi man was one of two people who drowned in Lake Michigan Monday afternoon in South Haven, officials said.

SOUTH HAVEN, MI — A Novi man was one of two people who drowned in Lake Michigan Monday afternoon in South Haven, the South Haven Area Emergency Services said.
Officials found the 22-year-old Novi man and a 21-year-old Columbus, Michigan woman unresponsive on South Beach on Lake Michigan around 12:39 p.m.
The two adults were pulled from the water by bystanders, officials said.

First Responders performed CPR on the man and woman before they were taken to a nearby hospital, where they died, officials said.
A yellow flag was flying at the beach Monday afternoon, according to the city’s website. A yellow flag means swimmers should use caution before entering the water.

The National Weather Service also issued a beach hazards statement Monday morning, advising people to stay out of the water and avoid walking onto piers through Tuesday morning due to high waves and strong currents. The warning covered Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren and Muskegon counties.
The drownings come less than 24 hours after a 21-year-old man also drowned in Lake Michigan off the shore of Grand Haven State Park, which is about 55 miles up the coast from South Haven.
