Novi Scores Higher on 2013 Michigan Merit Exam

The 2013 scores for the district are higher across the board, particularly in math, compared to last year's averages.

Novi Community School District's scores from the 2013 Michigan Merit Exam (MME) increased compared to 2012, and the district's 2013 scores continue to exceed state averages.

The MME assesses students in grade 11 and eligible students in grade 12 based on Michigan high school standards. It is administered each March, and consists of three components:

  • ACT Plus Writing® college entrance examination
  • WorkKeys® job skills assessments in reading, mathematics, and "locating information"
  • Michigan-developed assessments in mathematics, science, and social studies
>>See this year's results below.

The scores, released Monday, show that the percentage of students who scored either proficient or advanced on the 2013 MME was higher in every subject. The biggest increase was in math. In 2012, 63 percent of Novi students were proficient or advanced in math; in 2013, that number rose 5 percentage points.

Scores were also higher in writing, going from 72 percent proficient in 2012 to 76 percent proficient in 2013.

Also, the ACT average rose slightly from 23.2 last year to 23.8 this year.
