Novi Sushi Restaurant Burglarized; Car Reported Stolen

An unknown amount of money was stolen from the cash register in Basic Asian Mart on Novi Road on the night of July 1-2, according to a police report. A bicyclist called police at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning to report that the front door to the restaurant had been smashed out, the report said.

A police officer arrived to find the door smashed and one-foot ajar, the report said. The officer found the cash drawer of the register open with the tray on top of the counter, the report said. The tray had coins but no cash except for a $50 bill placed underneath a note, which stated the drawer had $450 in it on July 1. A drawer in the office in the rear of the restaurant was also found open and empty; the owner said a laptop was in the drawer, the report said.

The part owner of the business said the restaurant was locked up at 9:40 p.m. the night before and she wasn’t sure how much cash was in the register, the report said. Nothing else appeared to be damaged or missing. The owner, who lives in New York, said the surveillance cameras in the restaurant were not working, the report said. The police officer was unable to find any fingerprints on the cash drawer, the report said.  

Car reported stolen

A woman reported that her silver 2006 GMC Sierra pick up truck was stolen sometime between 5 p.m. on June 29 and 9:30 a.m. on June 30, according to a police report. The woman called police to report it; she has previously reported the truck had been taken without permission and was missing on more than one occasion, the report said. In past times, the suspects have been the tenants in her home and her boyfriend, the report said.

The car was parked outside in the lot at her residence on Cortes Street overnight and she discovered it missing in the morning, the report said. She told police she had no idea who would have taken it, but she had a feeling one of her 15-year-old daughter’s friends may have taken it to go joyriding, the report said. She said her keys are accounted for, but she has had many keys to the truck go missing over the years, so many are unaccounted for, the report said.

Police spoke to the woman’s daughter, who said she did not think any of her friends would take the truck and doesn’t know anything about it, the report said. The police did not find the truck in the immediate area, and it has been listed as stolen.

Wallet stolen at senior center

A 23-year-old woman reported that her money and credit card were stolen from her wallet while she was working at Waltonwood senior center on July 1, according to a police report.  She told police she arrived to work around 3:55 p.m. and changed her clothes after arriving. She then put her wallet and clothes into bag and left it in the break room, which is open to the public and other employees. She returned around 8 p.m. and found bag in the same spot with nothing out of order, the report said. She then left work and attempted to get gas for car, but when she went to get her credit card, she found the card and $120 missing from her wallet, the report said.  The credit card company reported that the card had been used at a convenience store in Redford later that day, the report said.
