What is the state's responsibility toward educating its population? Find out at a special seminar, A Parent's Guide to Education in Michigan, from 6:15-9 p.m. Monday in the Novi Middle School auditorium. (Read more here.)

2. Volunteers needed
Volunteers interested in assisting on Monday, May 13 from 4pm to dark may call the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department at 248-347-0400. Lakeshore Park is located at 601 South Lake Drive and Rotary Park at 22220 Roethel Drive.

3. Local voice of the week
- Celebrating Michigan’s New Felony Strangulation Law
The new law makes strangulation or suffocation a felony punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years and/or a fine of up to $5,000. Strangling is defined as “intentionally impeding normal breathing or circulation of the blood by applying pressure on the throat or neck or by blocking the nose or mouth of another person.” (Read more here.)

Gioia Masseus was greeted with a flood of orange balloons, cupcakes and carnations in support of Leukemia awareness at her surprise party April 26 at Novi Woods Elementary School. (Read more here.)
5. Last chance
Our 2013 parade will bring special recognition and honor to those who have sacrificed and served our country. We are asking area veterans to honor us by participating in the parade and memorial ceremony. The parade will take place on Monday, May 27 at 10am.
