Novi Police Arrest Man on Charges of Driving While Intoxicated

The man told Novi police he was texting as an explanation for his poor driving.

Novi police arrested a man around midnight Aug. 24 on charges of driving while intoxicated, according to a police report.

An officer saw the driver of a silver Honda Accord, on Novi Road near Ten Mile Road, cross from his lane onto the southbound lanes several times, the report said.

The officer stopped the driver who said that he left his lane because he was texting on his phone, according to the report. 

However, the officer smelled intoxicants on him, the report said. When asked, the man said he had several drinks while at Bar Louie, according to the report.

The officer administered several sobriety tests including a preliminary breath test. The man’s blood alcohol content was .124 percent, according to the report. The legal limit is .08 percent.

The officer arrested him. The man posted a $100 bond and has a hearing Sept. 9., the report said.
