Second Nathan Farooq Memorial Tennis Open Raises $3,000
The money will go toward Novi High School scholarships and to a house building charity.
The open held in memorium of Nathan Farooq raised more than $3,000 this year.
The tournament was held from June 15-17 at to honor the memory of Nathan, who was hit by a car and killed on the side of the Southfield Freeway during his senior year at Novi High School in 2011.
The winner of this year's tournament was Joseph Sheena from Michigan State University, previously from Brother Rice. Ryan Bell from Michigan State University, previously from Novi High School, finished second.

Four Fatheads, two Vera Bradley bags and two Visa gift cards were raffled off to eight different winners.
Half of the money raised will be going toward two scholarships for seniors at Novi High School. The scholarships — one for $1,000 and one for $500 — will be awarded to students who have played at least four years of tennis during high school and meet other qualifications.

The rest of the funds will be donated toward Nathan's parents' ongoing project of building houses in Bangladesh, where they have family.
