Sludge Spill Closes 10 Mile & Beck Road Intersection

The sludge is not believed to be toxic the intersection is now reopened.

Update: As of 3:30 p.m., the intersection has been reopened.

A spill of some type of non-toxic sludge on Beck Road at the intersection of 10 Mile Road has closed the area for an indefinite time.

Sergeant Terry Whitfield said the sludge is possibly from a car wash and was dumped by a vehicle around noon Monday.

The car was no longer at the scene, but police have identified the driver, Whitfield said.

He said the police are still waiting to get the manifest of what substance the car was carrying, but that it does not seem to be toxic.

A clean up crew arrived at the intersection around 12:30 p.m. and has begun to clean up the sludge.
