Small Plane Crashes In Oakland County Neighborhood: Police

The pilot, a 71-year-old Northville man​, suffered minor injuries in the crash and taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia​, police said.

NOVI, MI — A small antique plane crashed Sunday night in Oakland County, according to police.

Police said the small plane crashed in a thickly wooded area near large homes in the 21000 block of Cambridge, near 8 Mile Road in Novi at 6:41 p.m. as the pilot attempted an emergency landing.

The pilot, a 71-year-old Northville man, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia, according to police.

The Northville man was the only person in the plane, according to police.

There were no injuries on the ground and the crash did not cause a fire, though a large tree limb was severely damaged by the plane, according to police.

Officials did not say where the pilot was coming from or headed, or what caused the emergency landing.

Some roads in the area leading to the crash were closed.

The Federal Aviation Administration is still investigating the crash.
