Sticks for Kids Program Introduces Golf to Youth

The City of Novi is offering several classes in August for children interested in learning the sport.

The City of Novi Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department, in partnership with , is pleased to announce the Sticks for Kids golf program. Registration is going on now via cityofnovi.org for the following sessions:

  • August 1-3 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for ages 5 to 9
  • August 6-8 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for ages 5 to 9
  • August 13-14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages 9 to 13

Cost for residents who register online is $130 and $156 for non-residents. The program will be held at the Novi Oaks and Sports Center at 46844 West 12 Mile Road.

The Sticks for Kids program will introduce children to the game of golf, and participants will learn fundamentals such as stance, grip, swing, pitching, chipping and putting from local golf course professionals. Participants will benefit from the numerous life skills that are intrinsic to the game like etiquette, discipline, perseverance, integrity, sportsmanship and environmental stewardship.

No clubs? No problem. In addition to sponsoring the Sticks for Kids nationwide program, the Golf Course Builders Association of America Foundation (CGBAA) and the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) have provided 10 sets of junior golf clubs for Novi youth to use while discovering if golf is a sport they will enjoy for years to come.
