Summer Solstice Hails in a Season of Family Fun

Summer is officially here as we celebrate the Summer Solstice today, the longest day of the year.

Temperatures are expected to hit the low 90s today, with sunny skies all day long. At 7 p.m., the sun will be at its farthest point north in the sky, directly above the Tropic of Cancer, and we in Novi will celebrate the first day of summer. 

As we kick off the new season, here are some ideas for things to do in Novi this summer:

Family Events

• When: Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Fridays at 7 p.m.
• Where:
• What: Tuesdays include a variety of performances including a magician, puppet show and Mad Science. Friday activities include outdoor movies and concerts. See schedule for details.

• When: Saturday, June 23
• Where: on Walled Lake
• What: Fireworks will be shot off from the lake after dusk.

• When: Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• What: Sample local cuisine, buy fresh produce and listen to live entertainment.

• What: Take time to stop and smell the roses while touring the gardens.

• What: Join fellow community members for a screening of Pokémon Heros in Japanese with English subtitles.

• Where: Downtown Northville
• What: Bring a chair to enjoy outdoor concerts. See the schedule to find out who is performing which night.

• When: July 4
• Where: Mill Race Village, Northville
• What: Shop at the General Store, talk to Civil War soldiers and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy.

• When: August 31-Sept. 3
• Where:
• What: The revamped Michigan State Fair will include a circus, carnival, entertainment, animals and more.
