27 Lake Orion Teachers Laid Off Amid District's Budget Struggles

Pink-slipped teachers may be brought back, according to superintendent.

Twenty-seven Lake Orion teachers received pink slip notices this week, according to the Lake Orion Review, although district officials have indicated some might be brought back.

According to the report, Superintendent Marion Ginopolis said she would hire "99.9 percent" of the teachers back, but that the layoffs were necessary for now while the district contends with reduced enrollment and a $4.2 million deficit.

The layoffs, which took effect Wednesday, included six high school teachers, five middle school teachers and 16 elementary school teachers, the report indicated. The teachers were notified last week of the layoffs.
