Garbage Truck Driver Dies After Oakland County Crash: Sheriff

Investigators believe alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

ORION TOWNSHIP, MI β€” A garbage truck driver died after a crash Tuesday in Oakland County, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash happened at 4:56 p.m. Tuesday on East Silverbell Road near Lapeer Road in Orion Township, officials said.

Officials said 37-year-old Trent Edward Evans, of Flint, was driving a 2020 Peterbilt 520 waste truck west on Silverbell Road when a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee hit him.

The driver of the Jeep, a 16-year-old Oakland Township boy, failed to yield while exiting a private driveway, officials said.

Evans tried to swerve and avoid the Jeep, but officials said the garbage truck overturned and slid onto its side. The garbage truck driver’s cab then hit a utility pole, officials said.

Paramedics took Evans to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries, officials said.

The Jeep driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash, officials said.

Investigators believe alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Officials were still investigating the crash.
