2012 in Review: Plymouth-Canton School District Adapts to Realignment

Plymouth-Canton closes Fiegel, keeps Gallimore open amid restructuring plans.

Editor's note: This is the first in a five-part series highlighting five of the top stories around Plymouth and Canton in 2012. 

Families in the Plymouth-Canton school district saw drastic changes when the 2012-13 school year began.

In March, the Plymouth-Canton school board voted to close Fiegel Elementary—a longtime hot-button issue in the district—and in April approved additional plans amid a district-wide restructuring to best utilize the district's buildings.

Gallimore Elementary, which also was up for closure after a recommendation by administrators, was saved by a board vote.

Under the plan adopted by the board in April, the displaced Fiegel students were distributed to three elementary schools: Allen, Eriksson and Hulsing.
