Anti-Muslim Post Puts Plymouth City Clerk At Center Of Investigation
Longtime City of Plymouth Clerk Linda Langmesser is accused of making anti-Muslim post in response to article in The Atlantic

PLYMOUTH, MI—Plymouth City Clerk Linda Langmesser is under fire after an alleged recent anti-Muslim Facebook post in response to an article in The Atlantic written by former White House staffer Rumana Ahmed, a Muslim, chronicling her brief stay in President Donald Trump’s administration. The post Langmesser is accused of making disparages people of Muslim faith.
Ahmed’s article didn’t tell the truth about the Trump administration, “because that’s what they do in their culture,” Langmesser allegedly wrote, according to a report in the Plymouth Observer. The post attributed to the city clerk said Ahmed should “be sent to where she can worship the Koran.”
The post has since been deleted, according to the Observer.

Plymouth City Manager Paul Sincock said he was alerted to the post on Monday via a text message that was also sent to a number of news media outlets. He said an internal investigation into the incident is currently being conducted by city staff.
Sincock didn’t give a timeline as to when the investigation would be completed. Langmesser has worked as Plymouth’s clerk for more than 20 years and been with the city for more than three decades, Sincock said. Her position as clerk is appointed.

Sincock said he will handle any disciplinary action, if any is warranted, when the investigation is completed.
Langmesser didn’t immediately respond to an interview request by the Patch.
The post Langmesser is accused of making didn’t sit well with Nabih Ayad, founder of the Arab American Civil Rights League. He thinks Langmesser should resign if it’s determined that she made the post.
"It's appalling and we need to have a thorough investigation" Ayad told Detroit’s WXYZ-TV Channel 7.
