Canton Man Faces Rape Charges in Trenton

Rakeshkumar B. Patel, who owns a Trenton shop, is accused on three counts of criminal sexual conduct with an underage girl and one charge of providing alcohol to a minor.

Rakeshkumar B. Patel, of Canton, faces charges of two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a juvenile between the ages of 13 and 15, one count of criminal sexual conduct of force or coercion, and one count of selling/furnishing alcohol to a minor. He was arraigned by an out-county prosecutor on Saturday.

Patel, 48, who owns a Trenton business, was arrested Saturday after a girl between the ages of 13 and 15 years old reported to police she had been raped by the man early that morning, police said.

A preliminary examination of the evidence is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 6 at the 33rd District Court, 19000 Van Horn Road, in Woodhaven.

Police said the girl told them she knew the man, and the crime took place at the man's Trenton shop.

The man's bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000. He posted $5,000 cash for his bond and was released from custody of the Trenton police the same day as his arrest.

Police did not reveal the name of the business for fear of potential destruction of the property.
