Canton Police Arrest Homeless Man for Breaking Into Vacant Home

Police: Man had been living in vacant home and was told to vacate the property.

Canton Police arrested a homeless man for unlawful entry after he was discovered living at a vacant house on the 46000 block of Cherry Hill Road on April 18, according to a police report.

A neighbor told police that the man was living at the house for awhile and kept a bicycle at the house. Last week, officers told the man to vacate the house, the report said.

On April 18, an officer saw a bicycle under some bushes on the west side of the house. The doors to the house were padlocked, but the rear window of the north side bedroom was broken out, the report said.

Police knocked on the door and told the man to come outside, which he did several minutes later. The man told police he didn't respond right away because he was sleeping, according to the report.

Police asked the man if he had permission to be in the home, which he responded that he did not. The man told police that he had been previously warned to leave the house, but he came back to get out of the rain and was looking for his identification in the basement.
