Ceremonies Mark Veterans Day In Canton, Plymouth

Veterans Day is Saturday and special events are planned in both Canton and Plymouth to honor area service men and women.

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton will host a special “Salute to Service” ceremony at 7 p.m. The celebration will recognize military personnel currently in active duty in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves, as well as veterans of the armed services.

Richard Keenan, a local advocate and supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project, will be the featured speaker. Keenan has worked to raise funds and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project, which serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound on or after September 11, 2001 and their families.

In addition to the formal presentation, items for service men and women will be collected by the Michigan Military Moms, including individual size or travel size: disposable hand and foot warmers; Beef Jerky; new socks; and monetary donations to offset postage. Please note that all items must be small enough to fit a 12” x 12” x 8” U.S. Priority box.

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road. Canton will also host a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Heritage Park at 11 a.m.

In Plymouth, a ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. in Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of Main and Church streets. Members of American Legion Post No. 391, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6695 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 528, according to a Plymouth Observer report.
