Child Dead; Mother, Sister Hurt In Hit-And-Crash After Fireworks Show In Metro Detroit: Police

LIVONIA, MI — A 3-year-old boy is dead and his 3-year-old sister and mother were injured in a hit-and-run crash in Livonia on Sunday night, according to police.

The crash happened at 10:46 p.m. on Merriman Road at Lyndon Street, according to police.

Police said a 28-year-old Detroit woman was walking her 3-year-old twin son and daughter across the intersection when they were struck by a car that never stopped.

The traffic signals were flashing red for Lyndon and yellow for Merriman at the time, according to police.

Police said witnesses at the scene removed the injured children from the roadway. The children were taken to a nearby hospital where the 3-year-old boy died, according to police.

The 3-year-old girl was in critical condition, according to police.

The mother was also taken to a nearby hospital where she was listed in critical condition, according to police.

Police said investigators have located a suspected vehicle, but did not release any other details about the vehicle or its driver.

Police did not share any other details about the crash, which is still under investigation.

The crash happened just after the Livonia Spree fireworks festival, which was held nearby. The family was leaving the festival when the crash happened, according to a local report.
