Cinco de Mayo Celebrated In Metro Detroit

METRO DETROIT, MI — Cinco de Mayo remembers the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. In Detroit and the rest of the country, the date has become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture.

According to the Detroit News, a number of Cinco de Mayo parties will be held starting Friday. Here’s a list:

La Palapas: Family-friendly during the day with a kid’s happy hour 3-8 p.m. with face painting, balloon animals and free dessert. Daylong party also has ice luge, DJs, dancing and more. 9 a.m.-2 a.m. 33308 Plymouth, Livonia. (734) 762-7003.
