Fire Station Close To Reopening, 3 Firefighters Hired By Plymouth Township

Three new firefighters were sworn in Monday morning and will serve at the reopened fire station 2 in Plymouth Township.

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — When Fire Station No. 2 opens later this month in Plymouth Township, it will have three new firefighters to help get it up and running smoothly. On Monday, Clerk Jerry Vorva administered the oath of office to Anthony Schoenherr, Adam Guinn, and Tyler Caswell as the township’s newest employees.

Plymouth and Northville townships earlier this year approved an intergovernmental agreement to jointly run the fire station. It will cover Plymouth Township’s northeast end and Northville Township’s southeast corner. Both townships will provide emergency vehicles and firefighters for the fire station.

“Reopening Station 2 will improve emergency response times throughout both communities, saving lives and protecting property,” Plymouth Township Supervisor Kurt Heise said earlier this year. “Public safety is the core function of local government, and what our hardworking taxpayers expect.”

The fire station sits on Wilcox Road west of Haggerty Road. Earlier this year, Plymouth Township Fire Chief Dan Phillips said it would cost approximately $172,800 this year to hire three new firefighters and buy the equipment needed to reopen the station.

Northville Township, meanwhile, will provide the most up-to-date emergency training resources to Plymouth Township firefighters. The move will use Northville’s in-house training officer at no cost to Plymouth Township, Heise said.
