Former Canton Pastor Charged With Stealing
The former leader of Resurrection Parish on Warren Road will be in court on Sept. 8 and faces three counts of larceny.

CANTON, MI — A former Canton pastor was arraigned Thursday on three counts of larceny in a building, according to the Archdiocese of Detroit. Father Eugene Katcher, former pastor of Resurrection Parish, is accused of stealing money and items from the Warren Road church. The charges are felonies carrying a maximum penalty of up to four years in prison.
A probable cause conference will be held on Sept. 8 at 35th District Court in Plymouth and a preliminary examination for Katcher will follow on Sept. 15. He received a personal bond at arraignment.

Katcher, 71, retired from the church in July, the Archdiocese said in a news release. The church began an investigation into Katcher’s activities last spring and, after finding evidence, turned the case over to police.
The Archdiocese has restricted Katcher from public ministry. He can’t celebrate Mass or the sacraments in a church setting, or present himself as a priest. Katcher also is not allowed on parish property at Resurrection.
