Jim Harbaugh, L.A. Chargers Close To Deal: Report

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Wolverines head football coach Jim Harbaugh is within "striking distance" of becoming the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, according to NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo.

"They're now in the point where they're going to discuss staffing, when it comes to general manager and obviously the coaching staff as well. So this feels like it's advancing to the point where if everybody is comfortable with a lot of the principal factors at play, this team could move on Jim Harbaugh and get him under contract in the near future," Garafolo said.

Harbaugh has coached the Wolverines for the past nine seasons and just completed a perfect 15-0 season with a national championship win, the Wolverines' first since 1997. The news also comes after Harbaugh was suspended twice last season for a total of six games, including one for the ongoing sign-stealing investigation.

Harbaugh coached the San Francisco 49ers from 2010-2014, leading them to multiple conference championship games and a Super Bowl, which they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.
