Man Charged In Canton Road Rage Incident: Police

A man is facing charges in connection with a Canton Township road rage incident that happened Monday, according to police.

PLYMOUTH-CANTON, MI — A man is facing charges in connection with a Canton Township road rage incident that happened Monday, according to police.

Liam Rentz, 52, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon (5-year felony) and brandishing a firearm in public (90-day misdemeanor). He was placed in jail with a $5,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for May 30.

The incident happened Monday in the area of Warren and Morton Taylor roads in Canton Township, according to police.

A 911 caller told police two people got into an argument and threatened each other. The call also said one person pulled out a gun, according to police.

Police said officers arrived at the location and identified Rentz as the suspect. They found his vehicle in a nearby neighborhood, according to police.

Officers then learned that Rentz does not possess a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm in a motor vehicle, according to police.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers searched his house and found the gun they believe Rentz used in the incident, according to police.

Police were still investigating the incident and asked anyone with information to call Detective Lieutenant Mike Andes at 734-394-5423.

Police offered drivers these reminders if they encounter an aggressive driver:

  • Avoid engaging or retaliating
  • Do not make eye contact or respond to insults or gestures
  • Get to a safe location and call 911 if you feel threatened
  • Drive to a public area or police station if you believe you’re being followed
