WAYNE COUNTY, MI — U.S. State Senator Dayna Polehanki representing multiple western Wayne County communities won the Democratic nomination for the state's newly drawn 5th congressional senate seat, multiple outlets projected.

The Republican primary was still too close to call, but Emily Bauman was in the lead with 99 percent reporting.

The 5th congressional senate seat includes Livonia, Westland and Canton.
