Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. We are busy preparing for a successful school year and cannot wait to have our students back for in-person learning.  Next week, we will be distributing students’ schedules, collecting necessary documents, and taking student pictures on schedule pick-up days. In order to have a successful start to the school year, we will need your help in keeping all students safe. Since schedule pick-up days are not like normal school days where other mitigation strategies can be applied to insure student safety, the P-CCS mitigation plan requires all visitors to the building (parents, students, or other family members) to wear a mask. We appreciate your cooperation which will allow us to hold an in-person schedule pick up event.

We will have the following orientation events as follows at PIONEER MIDDLE SCHOOL:

If you are unable to pick up your schedule on the day indicated above, you will be able to complete all of the schedule pick up activities on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM.  If you are unable to pick up on this day, we ask that you contact Pioneer Middle School at (734) 416-2770 to make pick up arrangements.  Unfortunately, we are unable to release your schedule to anyone else.  If you have multiple students in your family who will attend Pioneer, please contact the office in advance and we can arrange for all your students to complete the process in one session.

Prior to arriving at schedule pick up, The Back to School Check-in process, which is a requirement for returning Kindergarten through 12th grade P-CCS families to easily update medical, demographic, and contact information in MISTAR Parent Connection (formerly Parent Portal), opened today, August 16, 2021 at 5:00pm.  Once logged into MISTAR Parent Connection, you will look for the ‘Back to School Check-in’ link in the top of the home screen and follow the prompts. This process must be completed for all students.  After reading through (and completing) the required sections, please print a copy of the Completed Registration Sheet and bring it to schedule pick-up.  Additionally, if your student is planning on playing sports at Pioneer this school year, they will need to provide a copy of a physical dated after April 15, 2021. If your student needs to take any medications during the school day, you will need to bring those to the main office in the original container with a medication form signed by your student’s doctor. Here is a link to the Medication Form if you need it:  https://www.pccsk12.com/departments/health-safety/medication-use

If you need a copy of the MHSAA physical form, here is a link to their website where you can print the form: https://www.mhsaa.com/portals/0/Documents/health%20safety/physical2page.pdf

At the schedule pick up event, you can expect to pick up your 21-22 schedule, have your school picture/photo ID taken, and walk the building to see where your student’s classes are. We will not be assigning lockers at this time to allow for more room in the hallways during passing time. All students will need a backpack and a refillable water bottle this school year.

Please look for an email from Durham Transportation during the week of August 23rd (or check MIStar after August 27th) for the most up-to-date transportation information. Any questions regarding transportation, please feel free to visit their department website @  http://www.pccsk12.com/departments/transportation.

Beginning this Friday, please be on the lookout for my weekly Pioneer Update with additional information.

Enjoy the rest of your summer break,

Kevin Rhein
