Frog Pond Report ~ December 5,  2021

I would like to welcome back a hand full of students returning to in-person learning starting tomorrow.  We missed you, and it’s good to have you back at school.

As we prepare for the coming week, I want to thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we navigate another trying time.  Though each person can be feeling differently about the impact that last Tuesday’s tragedy is having on our students in P-CCS and Eriksson School, it is important to know that our school and district continues to work with local law enforcement agencies in the event of any possible threats piggy-backing off of the Oxford tragedy.  In addition, our staff continues to review our emergency plans and we are preparing to respond to student questions should they arise.  Though answers to big questions should be left in your hands, students need to be reassured that they are safe at school, and that the Eriksson staff is prepared to help them in the event of any kind of emergency.   That’s what we are trained for.  Once again, we will all get through this together.

As we experience winter weather, keep in mind the temperature limit for students participating in outdoor recess.

  • Wind Chill BELOW 15 degrees, students stay indoors
  • Wind Chill 15 degrees or above, students go outside.

When there is snow on the ground, students need a winter coat, boots, snow pants, hat and gloves to play in the snow.  Wearing the appropriate gear not only keeps students warm, but it keeps students in class throughout the afternoon instead of addressing wet clothes after recess.  Given our school closure last Friday, we will continue to accept donations of snow pants and snow boots on Monday.  Just stop by any time to drop them off at the tables outside of door #5.  We will wash these donated items before making them available to those who need them this  week.  Look for future emails regarding any changes to this plan.  I thank all those who have already donated.

The following is our Schedule of Events for the Week of December 6, 2021

Monday, December 6: Is the last night of Hanukkah.  I hope all who celebrated had a wonderful time with friends and family.  Chag sameach!

Friday, December 10:   “Cocoa at the Pond” is scheduled from 6:00 - 7:30 PM on Eriksson's playground. This event will include cocoa, a decorated cookie, a take-home ornament craft, a candy cane scavenger hunt for the kids, and more. Please send all pre-sale funds in to the PTO by Wednesday December 8th. All purchases will receive a wristband upon check-in at the event. Wristband purchases may be made at the event as well but may not include the decorated cookies.  We are looking forward to a fun event!

SCHOOL NEWS:

There are two other events scheduled between now and the winter break to help our students, staff, and families celebrate the holiday season.

Our PTO is excited to be hosting another year of “Snowball Battle”!   For those unfamiliar with the fun fundraiser, students can purchase paper snowballs to “throw” at other classes and “snow them in”.  These purchased snowballs get taped to classroom doors, and the classroom with the least amount of snowballs wins!  “Snowballs” can be thrown at favorite teachers* from previous years, friends, or siblings classes, but students must know the name of the teacher they are “throwing snowballs” at.  This contest runs until Tuesday December 14, and proceeds benefit our school library.

The Eriksson Staff has organized a Holiday “Spirit Week” for all students and staff wishing to participate during the final week of school.  Please see this Holiday Spirit Week Calendar to see how students can choose to dress each day to show their school and holiday spirit!

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is applying to receive Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds (ESSER III) along with accessing funding made available through an Equalization allocation (referred to as Section 11t Equalization funding). These funds are designated for one-time and/or short-term expenditures to address learning loss and the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are seeking input and feedback from district stakeholder groups, including students, families, and staff members, as we develop a plan for the most appropriate use of the funds to support student learning, mitigate the impact of COVID-19, and address the needs of students within the parameters of the grant funds.

Your input is valued greatly. We look forward to sharing more information about these important funding sources, responding to questions you may have, and to hearing your thoughts, ideas and priorities for use of these funds to support student learning. Questions or comments may be directed to Nick Brandon, P-CCS Executive Director of Communications & Marketing, at nicholas.brandon@pccsk12.com.

This form will close on Tuesday, December 7 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
