CANTON, MI — Plans to build a Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers fast-food restaurant in Canton moved forward at a Tuesday township meeting.

The Canton Township Board of Trustees unanimously passed a motion allowing developers to submit construction plans to build the new restaurant, which will also have a drive-through option.

Developers plan to build the new 3,700-square-foot fast-food restaurant at 44250 Ford Road, between Sheldon and Morton Taylor roads, according to township documents presented at the meeting. The fast-food restaurant is known for their chicken fingers, fries, coleslaw and "Cane's sauce."

Developers plan to demolish the TGI Fridays that currently sits on the site. Board members expressed concerns about traffic in the area, but an official presenting site plans noted the future plans for the Ford Road boulevard project (which hasn't formally been approved yet) should ease traffic in the area.

A timeframe or an exact opening date was not discussed at the meeting. The new restaurant would be the first Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers in metro Detroit.
