Plymouth Native Crowned Miss Wayne County
23-year-old Christina Besh, a Salem High School graduate, was crowned over the weekend.
A Plymouth resident had one of her dreams come true when she was crowned Miss Wayne County this past weekend.
Christina Besh, 23, entered seven local Miss America competitions and finally won her first title Saturday.
"I was shaking so hard, they had trouble putting the crown on my head," Besh said. "I was balling my eyes out, I was so excited."
Besh will go on to compete for Miss Michigan in June. The winner of that competition will go onto the Miss America pageant.
Besh began competing in 2008, after she received a letter in the mail.
"I thought, 'why not, it seems like fun,'" she said. "I got first runner up at Miss Teen Detroit and I was hooked. I wanted to do more and more."
That's when Besh began looking into the Miss America Organization
"It's a wonderful organization about community service and I just loved that aspect of it," she said. "It's more about what you can do for your community than how you look in a dress."
Besh won her crown Saturday, and the very next day, she was out in the community performing her duties by visiting the Redford Township Fire Open House. She has another appearance scheduled this upcoming weekend.
On top of that, she's a full-time student at the University of Michigan Dearborn double majoring in finance and accounting. she also holds a full-time job and an internship at the American Red Cross.
"I actually live, work and go to school in Wayne County. So being Miss Wayne County... it's such an honor to represent my community," Besh said. "I definitely have a full plate, but it's very rewarding... It's been a whirlwind. I love it."
Winners of Miss Wayne County have gone on to become Miss Michigans on six occasions, and two have gone onto the Top Ten semi-finalists at Miss America.
